Susan Guy Andrew’s legal fees are charged by the hour and are subject to change. Disbursements are out-of-pocket expenses, including court filing fees, process servers, postage, photocopies, etc.

Because each case is unique, it is difficult to quote what your legal fees will be. With unbundled legal services, where the legal service is limited in scope and the task that Susan is retained for is clearly defined, it is generally possible to provide a quote. Uncontested divorces (where all legal issues other than divorce are resolved) are generally charged at a fixed fee and a quote can be provided. The greater the complexity and the degree of conflict, usually the greater the legal fees will be, as more time will be expended on the file.

In some cases, it is possible to give a general idea as to what each step in the chosen legal process may cost. In other cases, where the service requested is very specific and limited in scope, such as an uncontested divorce, it is possible to provide a quote.

When a client hires me, they are required to provide a retainer. A retainer is money paid by the client into trust as security for future legal fees. The money is held in trust and remains the property of the client until an account for legal services is rendered, at which time the funds in trust are transferred towards payment of the issued account. As the retainer is depleted, it must be replenished if ongoing legal services are being provided.

If you are considering separation, or are separated but have not yet resolved the issues, I offer a one-time initial consultation for a fixed fee. During this consultation, we will discuss the legal issues in a general nature, the way in which the law regarding each issue may apply to your circumstances and possible process options for resolution.
